Tape Measure Pro Tips

The end of a tape could be used as an anchor point and a compass. You can also make a mark in the wood using the end of the measuring tape to make a quick cut. You could also extend the measuring tap seven feet from the support of your hand and it will stay rigid. There are two systems the Imperial system and the Geometric system. Always try and keep your tape dry and never put it into water you will kill it.

Why you need shop skills

Once you get the hand of certain tools you can much more easier use similar or related tools. The way to improve your shop skills is to try new things and you are also exercising creativity. The more shop skill you have the more useful and more prepared you are for situations. You can learn a lot by doing small projects.

Screws: What you need to know

Screws are usually carbon steel medium carbon steel or high carbon steel. GRK screws are very tough they resist caustic and corrosive chemicals that are used in pressure treated lumber. There are different size screw tips. The different types of screws there are Philips, Robertson, and Torques. Yankee screw drivers were used before drills came out.

Marking and Cutting Pro

A lumber crayon will make a big bold mark that can be seen from a distance. A Sharpe can mark on any substrate. A pencil is made for making finer points and the downside is your always going to be breaking your pencil. You can use a carpenters pencil to take out sawdust out of someone's eye with the end of the pencil. The apex of a mark is where your going to cut. There are three different ways to mark a board.

Circular Saw Basics

There different types of saws. Some saws blades are made on the right side of the saw and some saw blades are on the right side of the saw. Never remove the guard on a skill saw. If you release the trigger right before finishing a cut you could save two or three seconds

Using String Like A Pro

If your line is brand new it is slick and slippery. If your line is new you use an overhand knot on a nail so it doesn't slip. If your string is used you can use a larks head instead of a overhand knot. When you remove a larks head there are no knots to take out. Always leave a little bit of end when using a larks head so if it does slip you have some space before your knot comes undone. To undo a larks head you grab the middle and pull. You can start a whole other pull using the same string by using a larks head without having to cut your line

Framing Square Tips

A joist is always level and a rafter is pitched. There are squares that are made out of aluminum and steel. A steel square in the sun will blister your hand. How to test your square your find a flat surface and make a scribe and then flip it over and scribe it again then you will see if your square is square. In order to make it square again you have to stretch the metal corner back in to ninety degrees.
