NOTE: The asterisks on the roster breakdowns mean that a player has potential to outperform their grade next season.
The Steelers are going to be a very tough team to play against next season. They have one of the best defenses in the league, and their offense isn’t just good enough, it’s above average. I have the Steelers starting off 6-0, then fading off a bit down the stretch. However, they still finish with a strong 10-6 record, good enough for the first AFC wild card spot.
QUARTERBACK: After shoulder surgery, Big Ben is a question mark coming into next season. He probably won’t be a top ten QB anymore, but I still think he’ll be a solid quarterback that is capable of leading this offense. The Steelers have a lot of good short to intermediate targets, and I think Roethlisberger will take advantage of that.
RUSHING: James Conner, when healthy, has shown that he can get the job done, and the Steelers have a lot of RB depth too.
RECEIVING: I love this receiving core, and it has a lot of potential. JuJu Smith-Schuster is coming off a down year but is still a good WR, and Diontae Johnson is a breakout candidate for next season. The Steelers also have Chase Claypool, who can play a role in this offense as a WR/TE hybrid. Vance McDonald and Eric Ebron form a solid TE duo.
O-LINE: This o-line isn’t as good as it once was, but it is still a top ten unit. Alejandro Villanueva is a very good left tackle, and David DeCastro is a very good guard. The Steelers need a bounce back season from Maurkice Pouncey.
RUN D: Good luck running against this team. Cameron Heyward and TJ Watt are monsters when it comes to stopping the run, and the rest of the front seven are very good run defenders too.
PASS RUSH: This pass rush is scary, and it’s arguably a top three unit. TJ Watt and Cameron Heyward are also monsters when it comes to rushing the passer, and they’re joined by Bud Dupree and Stephon Tuitt to give the Steelers four good pass rushers.
