NOTE: The asterisks on the roster breakdowns mean that a player has potential to outperform their grade next season.
This defense is very good. If they make the playoffs, the defense will be the biggest reason why. However, the Vikings have some major concerns, and I think it will cost them a playoff spot in a tough NFC, despite having a 9-7 record.
QUARTERBACK: Kirk Cousins is a good quarterback who gets the job done. He won’t elevate his team, but he brings a lot of good things to the table.
RUSHING: Dalvin Cook is amazing, and he makes this one of the best rushing attacks in the league.
RECEIVING: This isn’t a great receiving core, and it’s definitely worse than last year. Adam Thielen is a more than capable WR1, and Justin Jefferson is a high floor rookie, but after that you don’t have much. Losing Stefon Diggs is going to hurt.
O-LINE: This is the weakness of the offense. Brian O’Neill and Garrett Bradbury have potential, but the guard situation is horrendous.
RUN D: Losing Michael Pierce hurts this run defense a lot, and interior d-line is a concern. The Vikings have great run defenders everywhere else on the front seven, so this run defense should be good enough.
PASS RUSH: Danielle Hunter is amazing, but that’s all the Vikings really have. You could do a lot worse.
LINEBACKERS: This is a top five LB duo. Eric Kendricks was the best linebacker in football last season, and Anthony Barr is solid too. The Vikings also have tons of LB depth.
SECONDARY: The Vikings have a very young cornerback room. I don’t think it’ll be terrible, but they are going to make mistakes, and I don’t see it being a great unit. However, the Vikings have the best safety duo in the league with Harrison Smith and Anthony Harris, and that goes a long way.
