There once was a tale
Of a boy and his love
And the path they took long ago
They were trav’ling the land
Both of them, hand in hand
When one tripped in the thickening snow

And the white all turned red
From the gash on his head
From the rock, that was buried beneath
The boy took his love home
But there was no cure known
So he set out, on his two feet

All the legends had said
When you’re lover’s doomed dead
There’s only one place you can go
Hidden deep underground
There will surely be found
One magical golden apple

He was digging straight down
No dungeon to be found
When suddenly, he heard a clang
His pickaxe and gone still
And with a shivering thrill
He climbed under the cracked overhang

The dungeon was dim
And his courage ran thin
While he heard the mobs whisper and yell
But surrounded by stone
He soon found a throne
And at the top, the golden apple

So he scaled the wall
Careful as not to fall
And it shimmered, there in his hand
So he ran with the grail
And the mobs on his tail
Heading back to his love, as he’d planned

And his love was quite frail
And his skin had gone pale
But the boy, he knew what to do
Take a bite of the gold
And no longer grow cold
And with that, the trouble was through

(Extra verse, sung in whisper.)
To this day, they still say
If you visit his grave
The flowers will always be fresh
For that apple of gold
Was enchanted, I’m told
The lover cannot die
But he’s still left bereft
