History Notes Day 2
James Smith comes in and sets up colonies and makes rules. You cant eat if you dont work.
Land Ownership is important because The native americans thought of land as a god and the Europeans took advantage of that.
It is also important because they give opertunities to people. People will come take risks and give up everything. They become like servants, just so they could maybe own some land. (Land Ownership) But if they dont take risks the colonies will not grow and be sucsesfull. They got land by taking it from the indians. And because there were many people there who wanted land ownership. But not most of the people move to the colonies. Not enough that it affects england. Not the best takented smartest ect... But the ones that believe in themselves amd are willing to put their everything including their life on the line because they really have nothing to lose.
Crisis will be called Bacons Rebellion. Colonies had limeted democracy. The real power was the govenor. The govenor is not english. Hes an outsider hired by the King.
So over their limited power the govenor is the most powerful. (comes from england for a periiod of time he goes home) Supervises the colony for the king. hired Directly from the king. Bacon and other farmers because they want more land. they got land by taking it from the indians. (The Pahattan). They burn down the government buildings. First open act of rebbelion of colonists against the british government. Pilgrims come on the mayflower. Things that arent very true. (mythology) Alot of the pilgrims died on the ship the mayflower.
The captain landed the ship in the wrong place. They lose almost half the group/pilgrims. For the trip acrosss america. The puritans also come over for religious reasons but they come over because they think the aglacan church is getting soft. They want more rules and more strict because thye said religion is important. First thanksgiving a group of puritans atack a wanponig village. Lots of drinking at the party. They slaughter 700 people in their sleep. Green corn festival. Eventuaal theres a revelation they gain their independence. George Washington declared that every year there is thanksgiving. Had nothing to do with the pilgrims.
