Topic 1: COVID-19
-Harris uses pathos, ethos, logos (addresses viewer, asks about their situation, etc)

Topic 2:
"What will you do if something happens to the POTUS"
-Pence deflected the question about "presidential disability" and went back to COVID19/vaccines/etc. (DID NOT answer question)
-Harris didn't answer question either
"Asked about POTUS health/condition/confusing info from doctors... do voters have a right to know info about this... TRANSPARENCY"
-Pence didn't answer
-Harris said yes, but then steered convo away from topic (moved to Trump's taxes)

Topic 3: Economy
"Would raising taxes put recovery of COVID19 at risk?"
-Harris: compared Trump and Joe's definition of a successful economy, said what Biden will do/his plans (clean energy/renewable energy, roads/infrastructure, college plans,/student debt, ),
"Should Americans be prepared for long economic recovery"
-Pence: Brought up what negatives of what Biden did, compared it to Trump, STRAW MAN FALLACY ("Harris said Biden will raise your taxes")
-Harris: Uses pathos ("they're coming for you")

Topic 4: Climate Change
"Have manmade fires made natural disasters worse"
-Pence: Uses logos (lies? sounded fake), admitted climate change, said what Biden would do (Paris Green Deal), Freemarket Economy
"What is stance towards Green New Deal"
-Harris: Focus on renewable energy, said Trump's side believed in science, brought up what both sides said about fires
-Harris brought up China trade war, uses pathos ethos logos, addresses the audience (uses "you")

Topic 5: China
"What is USA relationship with China/how do you describe it"
-Pence: Blamed China for COVID-19, wants to hold China accountable for COVID-19
-Harris: Said Trump's approach to China is harmful, Trade war lead to loss of jobs,
-Pence: Uses pathos when mentioning ____,
-Harris: Uses pathos, Trump called military "suckers and losers"

Topic 6: Supreme Court
"Abortion?"
-Pence: Used his time to go back to previous subject,
-Harris: Didn't answer about abortion, didn't answer about "packing the court"

Topic 7: BLM
"Breonna Taylor... justice?"
-Harris: She didn't get justice, uses pathos,
-Pence: Said it was unfortunate, believed the court, deflected to riots/looting ("no excuse")

Topic 8: Election
"Trunp refuses peaceful transfer of power?"
-Harris: encouraged people to vote
-Pence: said how bad Biden would be as president
-neither answer question

"If leaders can't along, how will citizens get along?"
Pence: complimented student, warned about "fake news," said USA can disagree but get along (together as Americans), love debates but will be together
Harris: complimented student, said why Biden wanted to run for president bc of fighting, Biden can be bipartisan, believes future is bright bc of new generation, people have voice through voting,

After:
CNN: More civilized debate, Harris did good with other side dealing with COVID, Pence did good with other side's past record, both sides dodged questions, Pence's dodged questions were worse/more important, Harris missed some opportunities while Pence took them (Harris was more passive/let things go), Pence got more talking time, thought Harris had to be passive bc she was black
Fox News: Brought up small businesses owners to talk about debate COVID,

Less interruptions, more civilized
When Pence interrupted, Harris told him to stop immediately
Pence wouldn't stop talking (he went over his 2 minutes) all the time, Harris did so too but less often (
Pence went back to subjects that were moved on from
Pence's responses were mainly pointing out the flaws in Biden's side, Harris' responses were mainly providing answers
Pence continuously thanked the moderator after receiving a question
Both followed the Toulmin Model (claim, ground, and warrant) when attacking opponent
Moderator did have to stop and have Pence stop talking
When Pence didn't want to answer a question he would talk about something else and then answer the question in the last few seconds
