What is Energy? -used to do work.

Organisms need a constant supply of energy to survive. Why?
-Yes, cause our body continues to move and requires energy to have the ability to do work.

Which structure, ATP oR ADP, contains more stored energy?
-ATP-it contains higher amount of phosphate groups

ATP-common energy currency of cell
-highest an accessible energy

ATP to ADP Cycle
endergonic reaction-energy is required for a a chemical reaction to commence(consume?)

exergonic reaction-spontaneous or favorable reaction wherein the products are atlower energy level that the reactants.(release)

Phospo relation- adding of phosphat group
Hydrolosis reaction-breaking of chemical bonds using water molecules

-once phosphate is releases ATP accepts OH group resulting to ADP+Inorganic phosphate+Energy

Anabolic reaction-energy is required for them to process

Catabolic reaction-free energy is released from the breakdown of molecules

Functions of ATP
Chemical-uses enrgy to breaks bond
Mechanical-cell and tissues perform their functions using enrgy(pumping, circulation, etc)
Transport-binding with proteins, make substances move

Sources of Energy
Carbohydrates-instant energy stored in muscles
-energy stored in muscles is called glycogen, which gives glucose to the body..
-more stored glycogen-more activities that can be done
Lipids/Fats-has triglyceride
-store most of the energy(great source)
-has bad fats and good fats
-bad fats-stored immediately instead of used, may require hight intensity work to break it down
-god fats- easier to break down

Stored energy to adipose tissues may arise problems if energy is not needed anymore- can lead to obesity
