Wanting to compete with other people does not always mean it is based off of jealousy or comparison. It just means that you want to provide the best of what you can give, and you are motivating yourself to try to push your limits. It shows co-workers bosses and others that you want to do your best for yourself, and even for them. Motivation is a pathway to improve ourselves and our actions as well.
Making change in your life and stepping out of your comfort zone is so important when growing. You transition into a new level of your life when stepping out of your comfort zone even by a little bit. Doing things you are not so sure of lead to a lot of learning and making mistakes, but that is so important in life. It could have you learn to love new things, make you realize you are not so fond of things, or even just have the satisfaction of just trying it and doing it regardless.
Going along with stepping out of your comfort zones, doing so provides you with the knowledge of realizing your strengths and weaknesses. For example, when I was in 3rd grade almost every single one of my friends played the sport of soccer. I wanted to play so bad solely for the purpose of it just being because they played. I asked my family to start playing with me, and very soon I realized soccer is not something I am good at or even enjoy. My competitive 3rd grade self trying to step out of my comfort zone taught me that playing soccer was not for me at all, and that it would be much better to do something else that I really enjoyed, and was actually good at
All in all, being competitive is clearly important because it motivates you, makes you step out of your comfort zone, and helps you manage your strengths and weaknesses
