Attorney Tony Cotton opines that we, as a society, owe veterans “’opportunities within the criminal justice system’” and “’a different level of treatment‘” (Paragraph 21). Do you agree? I agree that veterans need a different level of treatment because they have been through things most people will never see. David Carlson said prison and war take some of the same survival skills like being a target. I also agree that we owe then opportunities within the criminal justice system because their situation is more unstable. Without our veterans, we would be unsafe and in danger of attacks. Also, our veterans experience many life changing events during their time in other countries deployed. When a veteran is released from prison, the problem still stays with them so prison is not helpful. Sometimes it can be difficult to cope with their problems so they make take drugs instead of getting help which means prison. Prison is also not designed for veterans with PTSD because it does not help. The Department of Veterans Affairs is supposed to take care of helping veterans. The problem is that veterans do not get help once they are in prison.
