WORKER RIGHTS:
the right to know
*as a worker, you have the right to know
1. what hazards are present on the job. a hazard is something that can cause harm or damage to someone or something
2. how these hazards could affect your safety and health
3. how to do the work safely
4. about the health and safety training needed for the job
THE RIGHT TO PARTICIPATE:
1. this right guarantees workers the right to be part of improving health and safety in the workplace
2. participation could be membership on the health and safety committee, or as individual when you raise a health and safety issue with you shift manager
THE RIGHT TO REFUSE UNSAFE WORK:
* you have the right to refuse unsafe work if you have reason to believe that:
1. any equipment, machine, device or thing you are to use or operate is likely to endanger yourself or another
2. the physical condition of the workplace is likely to endanger yourself
3. any equipment, machine, device or thing you are to use or operate, or the physical condition of the workplace contravenes the act or regulations and this contravention is likely to endanger yourself or another
