Jadi, Taekwondo dapat diterjemahkan dengan bebas sebagai seni tangan dan kaki.
Ada tiga materi dalam latihan taekwondo yaitu:
1. Poomsae: teknik dasar serangan dan pertahanan diri.
2. Kyokpa: teknik dengan memakai sasaran/objek benda mati, untuk mengukur kemampuan dan ketepatan tekniknya.
3. Kyorugi: pengaplikasian teknik poomsae.
Filosofi sabuk yang ada di taekwondo.
1. Putih: melambangkan kesucian/ dasar permulaan
2. Kuning: melambangkan bumi
3. Hijau: melambangkan pepohonan
4. Biru: melambangkan langit
5. Merah: melambangkan matahari
6. Hitam: melambangkan akhir kedalaman, kematangan
