soloists are normally not in the first movement and the first movement is almost like an introduction. there is still the possibility of starting with a soloist too.

pedal notes are notes that repeat themselves or are sustained.

the pianist is playing a mix of chords and then a sustained pedal notes. it builds up very dramatically and gradually gets louder which adds a lot of suspense. the chords are also changing.

block chords are chords that are played at the same time and arpeggios are played broken.

changes of dynamics or tempo are usually used for the purposes of adding texture.

contrast between the instruments with ranges but are all quite dark.
building itself up by change of tempo, goes from fast to quite slow and orchestra gets quieter for the piianist to have a solo part . then a big climax before it its quieter. new tune introduced by the piano. a little bit of piano in the back. the speed is fluctuating. orchestra builds back up in the cellos . piano has another part on her own and is playing a melody. alot brighter than before. answer from the clarinet. oboe joins. piano has a quiet part with the orchestra quieter. the tune from the beginning slowly comes back , and contrasts with the piano. orchestra accompanies piano. piano and orchestra build to a similar volume and bulds up together. some fanfare too. goes back to a darker tune and piano decorating it. two different tunes from the piano and orchestra. another piano solo. quite quiet. slowly builds up again . piano quite quiet. solo horn introduces second theme. accompanied by other woodwind and brass instruments and gradally builds up, then gets more quiet. the piano and cello are questioning and answering. piano starts playing a higher and brighter tune before it goes back to sounding minor and darker. the tempo and pace of the piano speeds up very fast to create a climax.

the movements are very long in this period because the composers were still exploring with the music but there isn't much musical ideas.

pieces like these are quite emotional.

baroque concerto is more brain music.
romantic concerto is more emotional music

in the romantic period, it fluctuates alot more in tempo and speed

in the second movement, the orchestra isnt just there to accompany the piano. the mood from the first movement changes completely and is alot calmer. the notes start off sounding quite dark. gradually builds up then goes more calm again the piano is playing broken chords and is more of an accompaniment. a flute soloist now starts playing a tune and the piano is accompaning it. then a clarinet solo comes in. then the wind dominates. the strings just play chords. then the flutes come in as well. after that they switch roles again and the pianist plays the tune while the orchestra accimpany her. the mood here is still emotional but seems alot happier. the piano starts to add more melody and she isnt doing her own accompaniment. then the roles switch again and the piano is accompanying the strings. then the piaist plays a part on her own and it sounds quite dark compared to before. there is a slight bassoon in the back decorating it.

the piece doesnt have to contain the soloist only all the time and they have more balanced roles than in the baroque period. there was a solo clarinet, a solo bassoon and a solo flute as well as the piano. as the periods move the orchestra end up changing roles alot more than before. it turns to a equal partnership.

solo and accompaniment becomes alot more common in this period
