There was also a new post on the apex sub reddit that received a lot of attention from the devs at respawn. Ill show the post on screen right now and its of an article title saying "Respawn Game Designer Says a lot of devs dont want to interact with players online due to toxicity" I mean genuinely who can blame them. Gaming communities are pretty much all like that but thankfully, we have a great community thats definitely above average and the Devs do a great job of staying in contact with the community, especially compared to other games devs. In fact there were many replies from devs on this reddit post. Most of the replies include each devs point of view and opinions on the topic. So ill link the reddit post down below if you want to read all the replies in their entirety but i just wanted to cover a few of the important parts that I noticed. So the Director of Comms said "It feels like there's a stalemate between devs and the people that play their games. I don't just mean here, but everywhere." and then they went on to say "We're hoping to help break the stalemate with things like seasonal AMAs, more regular messaging on our owned channels (like new content types on Respawn.com), and with more direct support for brave soldiers like Daniel Z. Klein who like to wade out amongst the people. That stuff matters, and it'll be worth doing." Which is absolutely amazing to hear since feedback and listening to the community is a huge part of keeping a game alive.
A reddit user replied to the director of comms saying "...as we’ve seen around here time and again. I wish it weren’t so, but there are patterns that emerge from the cash-cow machine that get people lit up. We don’t expect you guys to work for free, or any dev, but things like mismatching weapons skins from their parent skin in the Xmas bundles is a clear cash grab for buying two bundles to match up. If there was honest marketing, you’d get honest purchases. I’m sure the numbers are there to show this model works, but it’s predatory, and there might be a better revenue model if there was honest marketing, as more people would participate." Im sure most, if not all of the community can agree with at least parts of what they said. I bet the reddit user didnt expect a reply but The director of communication replied saying "As a dev, there's no upside to talking about monetization online unless there are positive changes to announce. People want action, not talk. If y'all see me or other devs popping into threads and then not responding to monetization questions / feedback like this one, please know that this is why. I don't want to waste your time with bs answers." Now this was a very well worded response and it doesnt surprise me at all since its likely EA that influences how Respawn do it but either way, both are companies and need to make money.
The director of comms replied again later on in the thread saying "Yeah if we have something to say about monetization stuff in the future it'll come through official channels (playapex.com or Twitter), definitely not through my Reddit account." Since monetization is such a touchy and important subject it doesnt come as a surprise at all that they will only ever make statements through official apex channels when there is something new or changing. Its a bit unfortunate that they arent making any changes to the christmas mix matched bundles right now but im glad we got an update and some clarification on what will happen in the future if or, hopefully, when they make changes to the way skins and bundles are sold. As always ill make sure to keep you guys updated if we get any official announcements on skins and monetization in the future. If you enjoyed this video then hit that like button and dont forget to subscribe with notifications for more apex content. Its been your boy sethly, and im out.
