When Lily says “Knowing can be a curse on a person's life”, she demonstrates that she realizes how obtaining knowledge can lead to afflictions in someone’s life. At the beginning of the book she thinks of her mother as a great person but T. Ray explains how she left them, which causes Lily to go to Tiburon to learn more about her mother. Once she got there she learns that her mother was not what she thought. Lily becomes burdened by the knowledge of her mother which causes her to feel anger, pitiful and sad. Her thoughts are rational and reasonable because she speaks from her own experience which caused her to grow as a person and become more open-minded.
knowledge that she believes will help create her own identity.

In Lily's thoughts, she says “Knowing can be a curse on a person's life”. This is after Lily finds out about her mother. She received knowledge and it was not what she wanted to hear. The theme is knowledge. Lily went to Tiburon to know the truth. The truth hurt her, but it completed her, making herself accept a much bigger truth about love, forgiveness, and strength. This quote helps advance the theme of the story which is knowing too much is a curse but, living in ignorance is not a blessing. Throughout the book, characters like Lily and Zach live in ignorance until they learn something which changes their knowledge and consciousness. An example with Zach is that he lives in ignorance of racism, but when he gets arrested, he gains knowledge of prejudice. An example with Lily is that she lived her whole life thinking that her mother was good and ignoring her past. The truth disappointed, angered and afflicted with her emotions. She wanted knowledge of her mother that she believed would've helped create her own identity. Ignorance led to disappointment and dismay.

escaped to Tiburon with the hope of learning more about her mother. But when she did, the knowledge burdened her with anguish and self-pity. The second theme is Knowledge. Lily braved the quest to Tiburon to know the truth. The truth hurt her, but it completed her, making herself accept a much bigger truth about love, strength, and forgiveness.
Lily is the main character of the story. It is from her perspective And the thought she is about the concept of lies related to the theme of the story. The theme of the story is how everyone has a secret life that you know nothing about. Secrets are concealed by lies. In the first few chapters, really tends to lie a lot. An example of this is when she lies to her father and the cops to get Rosaleen out of jail. But by the end of the story, she matures and starts to tell the truth more often.

At the end of the story, she speaks about her own experience involving lying. The knowledge that Lily acquired with concealed by lies and the lie the August acquired was concealed by knowledge. At the beginning of the story, really thought of her mother as a great person, but by the end of it she's learned the truth which helped her cope with the knowledge and experienced love.

August is wise enough to force Lily to face the ugly realities, and then build her back up and allow her to have both the knowledge of what it is like to be loved and dreams for the future.

When T. Ray tells Lily that her mother left her she gets mad and goes to Tiburon with the hope of learning more about her mother. When she does, the knowledge burdened her with anger anguish and self-pity. She heard the truth and it hurt her but it completed her making her accept herself and learn a bigger truth about love, strength, and forgiveness.

When Lily says, "Once you know the truth, you can't ever go back and pick up your suitcase of lies", she demonstrates how she grows and matures as a person. At the beginning of the story, she used to lie a lot but by the end of it, she started telling the truth more often. Lily uses the metaphor of lying and compares it to picking up a suitcase.
