You can also measure the amplitude to the bottom of the trough. A wave's size is determined by the energy that goes into it. Stronger winds out in the ocean transfer more energy to the water, creating bigger waves or waves with a larger amplitude. Light waves amplitude is bigger amplitude means more energy is transported. Tsunami: a wave created by an earthquake under the ocean. Transports energy from the earthquake. A tsunami coming ashore is very destructive. A wave with a larger amplitude transfers more energy than a wave with a smaller amplitude. Frequency= number of vibrations or cycles per second. Light waves can have frequency's that are a trillion times faster than sound waves. Wavelength: the measured length from one crest to another. Wavelength and frequency are related. if the frequency in a wave increases its wavelength gets shorter. But if the frequency of a wave decreases the wavelength gets longer. It takes more energy to produce a high-frequency wave than a low-frequency wave. The more cycles per second you put into your wave, the shorter the wavelength. Waves with high frequencies and short wavelength transport a lot of energy. X-ray: very high frequency and a very short wavelength. High frequency and a short wavelength=more energy. Very high frequency and a very short wavelength= possible danger
