Hi everyone,
I am ulaş, and Im going to talk about earthquakes.

I chose this topic because,as you now,there was an earthquake last week
in izmir so I tought this was a great topic to talk about.

So, I will talk about earthquakes under three topics:
I will start with the precautions,
then I will talk about what to do during and after an earthquake
so lets start.

The first precaution everyone should take is to set up a few contacts
you should at least have 2 different persons for your emergancy contact.
the first one can be one of your family members or it can also be a close friend
it doesnt really matter who it is.
What matters is your second contact, the person you choose for your second contact should be
someone out of town. so if the earthquake hits a large area you can still ask for help.

for example if your living in istanbul and your grandfather lives in kırklareli
that could be a great contact.

secondly, you should find safe spots inside your house
so lets talk about these spots:

your safe spot should be away from windows, as they might break and hurt you during an earthquake
it can be under sturdy objects, but you should fasten the desk so it wont fall off
and lastly it should be away from objects that can fall over you,
so you should fasten your shelves and you shouldnt have heavy objects on them.

Okay now we can move on to the next topic,
What to do during an earthquake
First, you must not panic
if you are inside, you should stay inside, do not try to ran away
A few people actually died while running down the stairs last week

If you are cooking, you should turn off the oven if you can, so there wont be any fire

Then, as you all know, you should drop, cover, and hold on tight to make a life triangle

If you happen to be outside, you should move to an open area, so you wont get hurt by something falling over

If you are driving, you should slow down and stop on the side of the road as there might be accidents

And the last topic, after the earthquake
....

And lastly, there is a false myth that makes people think that the doorframes are sturdy
and if you stay under them you will survive, but it is completely wrong and doorframes are
not sturdy at all.
