#Titans - I love this trade for the Titans. Desmond King has been by far the best slot corner in the NFL since 2017, and he’ll be a huge asset for this team. He’s a huge upgrade over Chris Jackson, who was getting torched in the slot. He will have to adjust to a man heavy scheme, but he has played well in man coverage in the past. I do think he’s much better in zone coverage because of his quickness and instincts, but he should still be good in Tennessee. The Titans will easily be able to afford King for this season. I doubt they’ll re-sign him, but they can if they want to. All it cost was a 6th round pick, which is definitely worth it in my opinion. They’re trying to compete for a Super Bowl this season, and this certainly will help. This gets a perfect grade from me.
#Chargers - I’m not a fan of this move from the Chargers. I understand why they did it, Desmond King is a free agent after this season and they weren’t interested in re-signing him. However, the Chargers have more than $30M in cap space for the 2021 season. Why not keep Desmond King? Yes, they do still have Melvin Ingram and Hunter Henry due for new contracts, but keeping Melvin Ingram instead of Desmond King makes no sense. I don’t think trading King was the right way to go. It would make more sense if they got a great return for him, but all they got was a 6th round pick. They honestly could’ve gotten a higher comp pick if they just let him walk. Their secondary will be just fine without him, but King would’ve made it even better for the foreseeable future.
