#Seahawks - It’s fairly obvious the Seahawks NEEDED a pass rush. Prior to this trade, their best edge rusher was Benson Mayowa….and Mayowa wouldn’t even start on most teams. They had by far the worst pass rush in the league, and because of it, the rest of the defense suffered. Not only did they trade for Dunlap, but they also gave up essentially nothing, and that’s why I love this trade. All it cost was their backup center and their 7th round pick, which I think Seattle can live without. Dunlap is not going to fix their pass rush, it will still be terrible, but he will definitely help. Even though he hasn’t been good this season, he’s still been far better than anyone on the Seahawks, and is a huge upgrade. The Seahawks are contending right now and for the foreseeable future, and adding a pass rusher was something they had to do as soon as possible. They’ll also have Dunlap for the 2021 season, and they’ll be able to afford him. Dunlap is 31 years old, but at worst, he’ll be the best pass rusher Seattle has. There was no better move to make than this one.
#Bengals - I am not a fan of this trade for the Bengals. If this was the best return they could get for Dunlap, why not keep him? I guess the Bengals didn’t want to hold on to someone who clearly doesn’t want to be on the team, which is why I won’t give this an F, but what does this trade do for them? I find it hard to believe the most they could get for Dunlap was a backup center and a 7th rounder. Sure, Dunlap isn’t playing well this season, but he’s coming off a career season last year where he was one of the best edge rushers in the league. I don’t see this trade benefitting Cincinnati at all. With how bad the o-line is, you’d think B.J. Finney would be a starter for them, but he isn’t. Trey Hopkins is hurt, but he’s much better than Finney, and should be the starter moving forward. Finney is better than Billy Price, who has been filling in for Hopkins, so there’s that. I just really don’t think this was the right move to make. They could’ve gotten much more than this.
