What are Analytics? (General)
1. Analytics is the systematic computational analysis of data or statistics.
2. It is used for the discovery, interpretation and communication of meaningful patterns in data.
3. It also entails applying data patterns towards effective decision making.
4. It can be valuable in areas rich with recorded information; analytics relies on the simultaneous application of statistics, computer programming and operations research to quantify performance.
What are Analytics? (In Software)
1. Software analytics is the analytics specific to the domain of software systems taking into account source code, static and dynamic characteristics (e.g., software metrics) as well as related processes of their development and evolution.
2. It aims at describing, monitoring, predicting, and improving efficiency and effectivity of software engineering throughout the software lifecycle, in particular during software development and software maintenance.
3. The data collection is typically done by mining software repositories, but can also be achieved by collecting user actions or production data.
