After years of doing work in the conflict management field in the corporate and government settings I have seen people consistently make three common mistakes that tend to make a conflict worse. This article looks at these three mistakes and explains the problems they are able to create.
I see people make three common mistakes if they are in the conflict: They make your lover the challenge, they make decisions whilst in an imbalanced personal state and they also get stuck arguing for the single solution.
1) They make the other person the challenge. I hear this mistake when folks say such things as, "You are certainly not playing me." "You're being irresponsible." "You don't care." "You usually are not making an effort enough." Typically every person in the conflict makes the other person the real problem; "if you'd probably just...." The demand is for each other to behave they are not doing as well as to be someone they are certainly not being. The mistake is believing that by getting them to change their mind, attitude, or behavior and agree with you, the conflict can be over. We are only creating a conflict because your lover has been stubborn, emotional, unreasonable, etc.
2) They drop into an imbalanced personal state. Some people become very emotional and some become very intellectual if they're in a very conflict. this page have a tendency to become very intellectual when I am in a very conflict. This gets in the way of me making a good decision until I get into balance. Healthy making decisions happens of an balance between our intellect and our emotions. It is not best if you force that you come to a decision from inside an imbalanced personal state. When we make decision from imbalance we makes choices we regret later.
3) They get stuck on one solution. Everyone comes to a conflict having a single solution in your mind. The problem is getting stuck about this single solution. When people try this they tend to demand things that actually do not meet their demands. There is more than one way to fulfill a desire and when folks set stuck for a passing fancy solution they loose sight products the conflict is absolutely about are begin to fight for balancing the scales of justice. Their option would be what's going to bring justice and if that option is not obtained then justice could have failed. Unfortunately, such solutions always be punishments and typically turn out having no lasting satisfaction.
I see these mistakes all the time. I can assure you making these mistakes will not build your conflict impossible to settle. The work I do helping people resolve conflict is mostly applying techniques and skills to get around these three mistakes. While these mistakes have become quite typical, all is not lost.
