Apple's App Store Takes on Fakespot

Fakespot claims that their application is a tool that can detect fake reviews as well as other frauds on eCommerce websites. As the top ranking eCommerce website, Amazon is also on top of Fakespot's list. Fakespot ended up closing down due to this fact. Amazon attempted to remove Fakespot from the Apple App Store. apple got the best of Fakespot and was able to have them removed from the App Store.

To be fair, Fakespot did commit a violation of one of Apple's terms when they displayed the Amazon website on their app without permission. Fakespot didn't get permission from Amazon to display their site as the form of a wrapper. Amazon doesn't want Fakespot to do anything. The issue is fairness and the procedure.

The dispute was brought to light by Amazon on June 8th.But Apple later released an official statement detailing the specifics of the dispute. Apple reached out to Fakespot on June 29 to discuss the matter and the best way to prevent it from being removed. Apple reached Fakespot again on June 29. Fakespot was removed from the App store two weeks ago. Khalifa was the one who made the announcement claimed that Apple did inform Fakespot regarding the possibility of Fakespot being removed.

Not only is intellectual property being invoked by Amazon, they are also claiming that Fakespot is a potentially dangerous application that injects a code in the website that could open up Amazon for hacks. Fakespot was in violation of Apple's 5.2.2. rule, which requires that you obtain a permit for your app to access a third party website. When looking at the facts, Fakespot's removal is actually pretty grounded. While some may think it was an obvious display by Amazon or Amazon trying to prevent people from trying its website's regulations, this one is really grounded.

The opinions of users are mixed. users who support the move while others are opposed. Some people are saying that Amazon is somewhat hypocritical for claiming that Fakespot is a security danger when their website is not a perfect example of absolutely safety. Fakespot cannot be relied upon to determine if a review is genuine or fake.
