SariAgri - Institut Penelitian dan Pengembangan Pertanian Malaysia (Malaysian Agricultural Research and Development Institute/MARDI) telah mencapai tonggak sejarah lainnya dalam sektor pertanian dengan didirikannya Center of Excellence for Green Agriculture dan peluncuran dua produk ramah lingkungan, yaitu Teknologi Biopestisida Multi Virus dan Pupuk OrganoPlus.
Menteri Pertanian dan Industri Makanan Malaysia, Datuk Seri Dr Ronald Kiandee, mengatakan bahwa Pusat Unggulan IPTEK tersebut didirikan untuk memperkuat penelitian dan pengembangan terkait teknologi hijau, tanaman dataran tinggi, serta melakukan transfer teknologi.
“Center of Excellence MARDI berperan penting dalam penelitian pengendalian hama dan penyakit dengan menggunakan agen pengendali hayati dan pendekatan pengelolaan sampah organik untuk produksi biogas, selain melakukan transfer teknologi melalui pelatihan teknis budi daya sayuran dan bunga, serta melakukan peningkatan kualitas keduanya,” ujar Kiandee usai memimpin pertemuan Center of Excellence, beberapa waktu lalu.

Terkait produk ramah lingkungan, Kiandee menjelaskan bahwa Teknologi Biopestisida Multi Virus yang dikembangkan oleh MARDI bertujuan untuk mengendalikan serangan empat jenis hama sawi dan kubis tanpa meninggalkan residu.
Sementara pupuk OrganoPlus merupakan kombinasi pupuk mineral dan organik untuk meningkatkan daya serap hara serta kesuburan dan kualitas tanah. Menurutnya, pupuk tersebut cocok untuk semua jenis tanah dan tanaman.
