Fakespot Booted out of Apple's App Store


Fakespot's website states it's an application that "brings confidence and transparency to the online by eradicating fraud and misinformation, starting with eCommerce". Fakespot was developed to spot fraudulent reviews of eCommerce websites. Fakespot is a website that lists Amazon as one of the most popular eCommerce websites. Fakespot closed its doors because of this. Amazon attempted to remove Fakespot from the Apple App Store. Amazon ultimately prevailed.With all the corporations fighting you how much chances do they stand of winning?Amazon could remove Fakespot from the App Store.

apple id was removed because Amazon said it was displaying the website through its application without permission - an explicit violation of the App Store's terms and conditions. Fakespot failed to get Amazon's approval for their site to be displayed in an extension of the app. Amazon is not allowing Fakespot any other permissions than they have granted. "Bullying" a small developer especially when you are Amazon is not really a good look, is it?

Fakespot founder Saoud Khalifa said that Apple didn't give them an opportunity to correct their mistakes , nor did they advise Fakespot about their potential dangers. Apple initially denied the claims by stating in an unofficial announcement the dispute was mostly about intellectual property rights. Apple immediately addressed this issue by connecting both Apple and Fakespot. Apple made sure that Fakespot was informed about the problems and the best method to avoid them being removed. Apple reached Fakespot again on June 29, to inform Fakespot of its violations. Fakespot was removed from the App Store just two weeks prior to the announcement. Because of this official statement, Khalifa retracted by saying that Apple did give a warning to Fakespot that it will be highly likely that Fakespot will be removed.

Fakespot's actions pose an enigma for security. Fakespot was found to be in violation of Apple's 5.2.2. rule.Fakespot also broke the terms of service of Apple. The verdict is cut and dry, and pretty well-documented. While some might believe that Fakespot was removed in an obvious display of power, other people might consider that Amazon tried to stop those who wanted to control their website.

apple airpods are mixed.There are many users who support the move and others who oppose. apple of people think that Amazon is a hypocrite when it blocks access to third parties to protect their privacy after their website was hacked. Fakespot however, on the other side, may not be 100% accurate and may be quite abrasive when assessing reviews.
