مقدمة لمنظومة الأمم المتحدة: التوجيه والإرشاد للخدمة في بعثة ميدانية للأمم المتحدة هي دورة تمهيدية مصممة للطلاب الذين قد تكون معرفتهم بالأمم المتحدة محدودة. تتألف الدورة من أربعة أقسام رئيسية. يهدف القسمان الأول والثاني إلى إعطاء الطالب وعياً شاملاً بالمبادئ التوجيهية للأمم المتحدة على المستوى المؤسسي والتنفيذي، فيما يركز القسمان التاليان على الجوانب العملية والمشاكل التي تواجه القائم بالأعمال الميدانية، فضلاً عن وسائل التعامل مع مثل هذه المشاكل.
تسعى هذه الدورة إلى تزويد الطلاب بمعلومات كافية عن المواضيع التالية: غرض ومبادئ الأمم المتحدة ونظامها وإطارها المؤسسي؛ أدوار الأمم المتحدة في مجالات السلام والتنمية والأمن، تطبيق القانون الإنساني الدولي وحقوق الإنسان، تطبيق أساليب التفاوض والاتصالات والوساطة، القضايا المتعلقة بالسلامة والأمن، والالتزامات العامة ومسؤوليات القائم بالأعمال الميدانية. وتستند أهداف الدورة إلى سياسات ومبادئ الأمم المتحدة، فضلاً عن الأهداف المماثلة حسبما عبرت عنها المنظمات/المعاهد والمنظمات غير الحكومية. والجديد في هذا الإصدار هو تجميع وتطوير المعلومات التي تركز كلياً على المدنيين المُعينين في البعثات الميدانية للأمم المتحدة. تسعة دروس.
An Introduction to the UN System: Orientation for Serving on a UN Field Mission is an introductory course designed for students who may have limited knowledge of the United Nations. The course itself consists of four main sections. The first two are intended to give the student a thorough awareness of the guiding principles of the UN at the institutional and operational level. The following two sections focus on the practicalities and the problems that a Field Operator may encounter, as well as the means to deal with such issues.

This course should provide the student with an adequate base of the following topics: the purpose and principles of the United Nations, its system, and its institutional framework; the United Nations’ roles in the areas of peace, security, and development; applications of international humanitarian law and human rights; application of communication, negotiation, and mediation techniques; issues regarding safety and security; and general obligations and responsibilities of the Field Operator. The objectives of the course are based on the policies and principles of the United Nations, as well as similar objectives as expressed by organizations/institutes and nongovernmental organizations. New to this edition is the compilation and development of information that focuses entirely on the civilians assigned to United Nations field missions. Nine lessons.
