Odysseus waits patiently for his opportunity to strike and take vengeance upon the suitors for trying to wed his wife and take over his house and his land from him while he was away, he is showing great strength and thinking up strategies, so that he doesnt let his pride get in the way like it used to, he thinks thoroughly, and plans it out well, which in the end, as you saw worked out brilliantly even though his son messed up and left the armory door open.
Compare Odysseus' character after he returns to Ithaca with his character exhibited in the Cyclops. How is he different? In what ways has he remained the same?
Odysseus waits patiently for his opportunity to strike and take vengeance upon the suitors for trying to wed his wife and take over his house and his land from him while he was away, he is showing great strength and thinking up strategies, so that he doesnt let his pride get in the way like it used to, he thinks thoroughly, and plans it out well, which in the end, as you saw worked out brilliantly even though his son messed up and left the armory door open.
What strategies does Odysseus use to overcome Scylla and Charybdis and the temptations of the Sirens and Helios’ cattle? How do these strategies define his character?
for scylla, the entire crew just stood there and let it happen, there was nothing they could do, same with charybdis, nothing they could do. Odysseus is still a courageous character, if he could've done something he would've, with the sirens he was told to plug their ears with beeswax while he was tied to the mass so he could hear the sirens song without getting killed, and helios cattle, he couldnt do anything because the gods made him fall into a deep sleep and by the time he woke up his men had eaten of the cattle which they were not supposed to touch or harm.
Epic simile is being used, and basically whenever she shot water into the air it was like a geyser, being shot up and then dropping like rain. yes it does create a clear picture because of the word choice they chose.
Compare and contrast Odysseus’ encounters with Circe and Calypso. What dangers does each pose to Odysseus?
They both have beautiful island where its like an escape, a retreat from the real world, and its also isolated, circe and calypso both love him, one loves him with passion and the other one loves him superficially, they are both beautiful goddesses one of the is like perfection and the other one is unreal, they both offer eternal youth, be carefree and have no goals.
