when describing what life would be like living in spain under philip II, it is important to look at what was going on in spain at the time. it was the golden age due to the influx of wars with england as well as the netherlands. so living in that time i would be fearful of fighting in a war and dying, or having those i loved being killed in a war. philip II also persecuted non-catholics. i would be fearful of this persecution being a noncatholic. there was no religious freedom in spain at the time. philip II also shifted the country to raising sheep instead of grain. this caused food shortages from time to time and many people went hungy. because he was an absolute ruler there was no checks on his power to protect the people.
