Think about when you drop a penny do you even take the time it to pick it up? Pennies are a complete waste of time and money they are 1 cent away from being worthless. You can't even buy anything with a penny.
Pennies lose you and the government money the government takes more taxes from you to produce a coin no one even uses. "It costs the government 2.4 cents to mint each penny." (The cost of a penny). The government loses almost 1billion dollars a year with pennies. Pennies aren't even worth their weight "Even the Department of Defense agrees. It abolished the use of pennies at overseas military over 30 years ago because pennies were considered 'too heavy' and 'not cost effective to ship.'".

Pennies can be good sometimes too like in (Save the Penny-Save the Day) it says" Without pennies we would be forced to round everything to the nearest nickel. For instance, instead of paying $29.96 for something you may have to pay $30. Over time, rounding to the nearest nickel could mean a big loss for consumers." Every single store would have to buy updated cash registers that round up. Even though pennies might round up sometimes they also round down like if something costs $18.03 you would only have to pay $18 instead.

Pennies are a waste of time and effort they make cashiers do extra work that wouldn't be needed if we abolished the penny. They waste so much time a year Jeff Gore says "each of us waste 2.4 hours per year with the grubby little discs." Pennies probably sit in your wallet for maybe a week or two while you carry that extra weight around until you spend them.

In conclusion there are some benefits for keeping the penny like you get your purchases rounded down so its cheaper but there are so many reasons to get rid of it like the government loses 1billion dollars a year and they cost more than they're worth and you have to carry them around in your wallet also no one even uses pennies.
