Heroes are ordinary people who have the urge to help people. Kindness is what make people do extraordinary things. Kindness ignites a heroic act in someone. You don't even have to save someone to be a hero you just have to do the little things like sitting with the kid that sit by themselves at lunch or standing up to a bully or the teen that says no to drugs.

Ryter in The Last Book in the Universe is kind and he saved Lanaya and Spaz to help him save his little sister bean he risked his own life for someone else." 'wait until you hear my signal then do your best,' 'what?' I say. 'What are you talking about?' A moment later there's shouting from inside the smoke. 'Edibles! Get him, he's got edibles!' The mob hears and they forget all about snatching the proov girl" Ryter is just an ordinary person who's kindness told him the right thing to do.

Another example of a heroic act is in "Ordinary Hero'' When He Pulled his friend out of a freezing pond. "Chatterton was surprised to learn that Flores had the presence of mind to pull his friend to safety. 'They both could've drowned,' Chatterton." In my mind he was the true hero of this incident. We just came in and took over the efforts that he started." Flores showed a great act of altruism be cause they both could have died but he took the chance to save his friend.

In both articles they showed outstanding acts of altruism but to be a hero you don't need to save anyone or risk your own life the simple things count just saying hi to someone every day or being nice to someone who is having problems with school or their family just being kind is heroic.
