6 Steps to Conflict Resolution and Playing the Game of Perspectives
As a coach, business leader, mom, and spouse, I know that conflict arises every day within our lives. To help me to pay attention to a path of resolution in lieu of escalation, I made a game I call, "the Game of Perspectives." This game involves six steps that I use which helped me to shift my thinking from one of being a victim to at least one of resolution, action, and solution creation. By playing mafia wars, I am able to adjust my thinking, focus my feelings toward action, and create some amazing results allowing me to progress more fully toward my goals.
To play this game you need to follow these six easy steps toward your ultimate goal of seeking a solution.
BREATHE. When I am confronted with an issue that I feel is leading to a conflict, I remember the Faith Hill song, "Just Breathe." By focusing my perspective with this song and reminding myself to look at a deep breath and slowly release it, I allow myself to relax while keeping focused about what is occurring around me. I do not rush to create a solution, get angry, or push my perspective. I just breathe and take time to focus my thoughts and tune in to my heart.
LISTEN. As with any conversation you have, regardless of who it is with, the first skill we have been taught as coaches is always to actively listen and achieve this as intuitively as possible. Again, you aren't pushing your agenda nor do you need solutions. What you are doing is hearing the person who you are in conflict with to tap into their thoughts, feelings, and concerns regarding the situation. Learn to appreciate their standpoint, their feelings, their concerns, in addition to their anxieties.
ROLE PLAYING. As with any game, you will find roles in the Game of Perspective. The third step in the procedure centering on you playing as numerous different roles as is possible rather than just emphasizing yourself. Push yourself to get yourself into the role of one's advisory. Step into new roles and new perspectives that are not the same as people who you or even the individual (or group) that you enter conflict with is at. The real benefit comes from the ability and value you will get in coming up with a wonderful solution together that can empower everyone to achieve a new level of play. So, by keeping this in mind everyone who plays the sport is indeed a winner.
