Kaufmann. Herr Burgener ist seit 1982 im Filmgeschäft tätig. Seine unternehmerische Laufbahn begann er 1983 mit der Gründung der Rainbow Video AG (heute: Rainbow Home Entertainment AG), Pratteln. Herr Burgener ist seit 1994 Aktionär der Highlight Communications AG und war bis 1999 Delegierter ihres Verwaltungsrats. Im Mai 1999 führte er das Unternehmen an die Börse und verantwortete von 1999 bis 2008 die Geschäfte der Highlight-Gruppe als Präsident des Verwaltungsrats.
Seit 2008 fungiert Herr Burgener erneut als Delegierter des Verwaltungsrats. Nachdem er 2011 von der ordentlichen Generalversammlung der Highlight Communications AG zum neuen Verwaltungsratspräsidenten gewählt wurde, übt er beide Funktionen in Personalunion aus. Darüber hinaus war Herr Burgener von 2008 bis 2015 Vorstandsvorsitzender der Constantin Medien AG. Von 2009 bis 2013 war er zudem Vorsitzender des Vorstands der Constantin Film AG, deren Aufsichtsratsvorsitzender er seit 2014 ist.
