THE WRIGHT BROTHERS It was a chilly and dry day in KittyHawk, NC. The temperature was in the lower 40's, December 17th of 1903 was the day when my brother and I would create the first airplane in North Carolina's history. My brother Wilbur was only 11 and I was just 6 in 1878 when our dad Milton Wright brought home a rubber band-powered toy helicopter, about 25 years later this toy helicopter would be the spark of our inspiration to create the first aircraft to ever fly in American history. My brother Wilbur and I took about 4 years to finish our aircraft, On our first flight, we managed to stay in the air for at least 12 seconds and covered more than 120 feet on our inaugural flight. Then in 1908, we adapted the Flyer to carry the first airplane passenger. It's kind of crazy to think before we even thought of making airplanes my brother and I were making bicycles and selling our own designs, and around 1912 my brother Wilbur sadly passed due to sickness, our youngest brother still outlives our family to this day...... ps,we even have a memorial in remembrance to us you should visit sometime!! sincerely, Orville Wright
