Guide on HOW TO MAKE YOUR OWN SOY WAX MELTS

I want to hug the person who invented those flameless soybean wax melts. I love candles but our house is almost entirely made of toothpicks so I'm always on the lookout for flame-free options to scent my home. If you haven't heard of them, wax alloys are essentially just wax cubes that you place in a heater (ours is electric, so there is no open flame). They smell just like candles when they melt.

Although buying them is not expensive, making your own smelters allows you to control what happens in them. These three-ingredient soy wax melt s are paraffin-free and contain only essential oils, so you never have to worry about inhaling something cramped.

DIY soy wax melts

You don't necessarily need many accessories to melt your wax.

I use soy wax for me because it is non-toxic and easy to find in most craft stores. They can also be made with paraffin wax (health) or beeswax (a bit more expensive). Because there is no open flame, the wax must melt at lower temperatures so I add oil. And finally, I use different essential oils to increase the aromatherapy factor. To perfume a whole room, you should use small bottles of inexpensive oils. I prefer lavender, grapefruit, and lemon oils. But buy soy wax melt can use whatever oil you like.

Materials

Silicon mold, ice cube tray or small muffin pan

2 cups soy wax flakes

1/4 cup almond or grape seed oil

1-2 tablespoons of the essential oil of your choice

Old 16 ounce glass jar

In a small saucepan

Optional: clay, ground herbs or beet root powder for a natural color

Instructions

1. Place the soy wax flakes in an old heat-resistant glass jar. Place the jar in the saucepan. Fill the pan with enough water to cover half of the jar.

2. Keep the wax in place on low heat for about 30 seconds.

3. Remove from heat and allow to cool for 2 minutes. Blend almond oil and essential oils. Even though 2 tablespoons of essential oils sounds like a lot, the wax might not be as fragrant. If necessary, add more oil. Add color to your melts now.

4. Allow the wax to cool in the mold.

5. To use, place 2 or 3 melts in the heater and let the smell fill your house as it melts.
