The Mats' theme is around family and Filipino values. Family unity has always been a core Filipino value, as has respect for elders and parents, the durability of parents' marriages, and the equality of siblings, among other things. 2. Place: Nana Emilia's house, Time: The activity is scheduled to take place in the afternoon. This narrative takes place somewhere between the 1950s and the present day. The narrative does not have a definite season, although it develops throughout dinnertime. 3. Mr. Angeles. He is a hard-working and a loving man who works as an engineer in Manila. He cares deeply for his family to the point where he does not forget who their dead siblings were. 4. The start: Mr. Angeles is coming home from his periodic inspection trip. He had written to Nana Emilia that he has a surprise for their family. The middle: Mr. Angeles is presenting his present to the entire family. And the siblings were ecstatic to receive their presents. And one by one, he placed the mats with notable names and symbols on the lit area of the home. The end of the story: The home was deafeningly quiet towards the conclusion of the narrative. The mats were then carefully unfolded, revealing each name. Also detailed were the mats for the three deceased siblings. These aforementioned siblings were: Josefina, Victoria, and Concepcion. These parts of the story are connected all through one thing: mats, and closeness with family, especially with deceased members. 5. Mr. Angeles exhibited a struggle. Mr. Angeles wanted to honor his three siblings, but he was so upset that he couldn't talk about it. He also saw the emotion in himself and found a means to release it by giving the three siblings mats.
