Architecture Styles
Stalinist architecture, most commonly referred to in the former Eastern Bloc region as Stalinist architecture or Socialist-Classicism, was the architecture of the Soviet Union during the period of Joseph Stalin, from 1933 to 1955. Stalinism was the dominant style of architecture in the Soviet Union from the architectural point of view. It had a significant influence on the styles of Western countries, particularly the London Bridge style. This is the reason why it is often credited with the inspiration for landmarks such as the Cape Cod houses or the Mona Lisa. But, in reality Stalinist architecture was a reaction to the harsh conditions in the Russian countryside and its effects on architecture are largely limited.

Many historians of architecture have criticized Stalinist architecture over the years. Many historians of architecture have criticised it as an intentional effort to produce stolid buildings. This was in response to the excesses of the Third Reich in architecture during World War III. Others have highlighted the obvious similarities between Stalinist architecture and the architecture of the German regime of the 1930s, that fell apart following the beginning of war. The fact that these structures bore the hallmarks of Stalinist architecture did not help make a difference to their fate.


The name of the soviet is one example. It explains why the structures in which they were built were given the names of Stalinist structures - they were, in fact, built by the soviets. Another criticism of the Soviet style is that it was created artificially developed by a few architects and engineering firms. This is a fact. There were no fake constructions in the Soviet Union, no stylized designs that were developed by a small group of techs. They were however mass-produced to meet the demands of the massive Soviet population. This was due to collectivization, which saw peasant farmers convert their farms into factory farms, which fueled the soviet's growth.

These monuments and skyscrapers are one of the most prominent arguments against the Soviet style. They are generally thought to be the products of a small number of industrialists and architects who controlled the design process and, consequently, the cost of these construction materials. Stalingrad is often cited as the point at which capitalism was transformed into the failed system it was for the most part, since the Soviet builders had only a few options of building materials. The "Gorkovski" brothers built the Stalingrad metro stations in the 1950s. They were an homage to Stalingrad's grand architecture. They had large rectangular concrete monoliths that soared into the sky above the bustling center of the soviet. Even even though the structures bear the communist sign (e.g. the monoliths at Ekonomnaya metro station) They still have the distinctive, vibrant designs of Stalingrad. Indeed, it is this nostalgic nature that is what creates Stalingrad architecture so beloved to its Russian public.

Stalinist architecture has many other defenders as well, though. One of these is the "ostalgia bias" which is the tendency to reflect on the past that is more interesting than looking forward to an improved future. It can be seen as a means to fight the monotony that was prevalent under the Soviet regime. People who believe that Stalinist architecture was less damaged during the "Stalin era," as opposed to other cities in World War II, are another popular defense of Stalinist architecture. Some even point out that the amount of urbanization suffered by the city compared to others only justified the construction of such grandiose monuments.

Critics also point to the fact that Soviet architecture lacks an identifiable aesthetic concept. It is possible to argue that there was a huge variety of styles in architecture before the Soviet regime came into power. However, because the style of architecture followed the same formula throughout the time it did, it became standard androgynya, or cookie-cutter. Architecture became more conservative and conformed to Russian standards after the Soviet regime was established. Furniture and building materials began to conform to more strict design standards.

A new style of architecture was born following the fall of the Soviet Union: minimalist or avant-garde. However it quickly fell out of fashion when the public stopped being interested in it. Today, the majority of architecture that is portrayed in the so-called avant-garde or minimalist architecture is either an update of the classic style or a brand new creation of the same type. Many architects struggle to differentiate the distinctions. One kind of avantgarde "minimalism", blends elements of minimalistism and avant-garde.

Stalinist architecture has been criticized by numerous modern architects and critics for not appropriate for modern needs. Its influence on Western architecture cannot be denied. The most notable achievement was the use of monochromatic color schemes - black white, grey, and black in styles of architecture that were which were previously monochromatic. Even the so-called "Stalin-lite" architecture that combines elements of both avant-garde and traditionalist architecture styles, bears a remarkable similarity to the style that was used by the Stalinist architecture. ออกแบบภายใน
