Romanesque Architecture
Romanesque architecture, also referred to as Greektown is an artistic style of architecture originating from the ancient Roman Empire. It was most developed in Istanbul during the early days of the Byzantine Empire. Romanesque architecture incorporates elements from both Gothic and Romanesque styles. This architectural style is characterized by the use of limestone, marble and other similar stones, frescos, latticed windows and countertops made from marble or limestone.

Romanesque architecture has a few important characteristics that make it different from other types of this type of architecture. This architectural style has a primary characteristic: it uses a variety natural materials, such as limestone, marble wood, stones, in addition to metals like copper and bronze. In contrast to the traditional rustic or Gothic architecture, where wooden beams and timber are the primary building material used, Romanesque architecture makes use of more complex materials. Romanesque architecture makes extensive use of architectural friezes, which are decorative elements placed on top of buildings. These friezes can be a great way to add value to an Romanesque structure as they can enhance the visual appeal of the structure and create a unique atmosphere.

In addition to the use of decorative friezes, a distinct feature of Romanesque architecture is the use of vaulted ceilings. Romanesque structures usually have vaulted ceilings that are supported by balustrades or iron fittings. A similar characteristic of Romanesque churches is the use of wave fronts (i.e. the vaulted ceiling of a Romanesque church is supported by cross beams). Another frequent feature of Romanesque architecture is the use of porticos (open-air vestibules) in addition to the regular built-up roofs.

Many characteristics of Romanesque architecture can be seen in Greek architecture. The most notable is the use of heavy and dark stones, iron and metal and ceramics, pottery and other earthy materials. In addition, Romanesque buildings often have shewn plaster roofs. Romanesque ceramics and furniture are decorated with natural elements like wood, stone or even metal. Romanesque furniture is not decorated, however, it is used every day.

Romanesque arches feature arches and columns that are vertical. Romanesque pedimentary is another architectural style. It is a post that supports a column on either side of a rectangular or square room. Roman arches are characterized by rounded forms instead of sharp corners. There are arches that are more ornamental and less practical.

The majority of Romanesque structures are straight-lined. Triangular and pentagonal arches are exceptions. Additionally, the primary elements of Romanesque architecture are simple, rounded shapes instead of elaborate ornamentation. This style of architecture was popular in urban areas throughout the Roman Empire which was in the 12th century. Many of these urban churches still stand and are used as pilgrimage spots or churches.

Romanesque architecture is similar in style to the earlier Roman buildings. It is characterized by symmetrical shapes and a large number of pointed and tapering arches and symmetrical cornices. However, the distinction between the ancient Roman and Romanesque architecture is the use of more intricate details. To create their arches, the ancient builders used stones and metals. Romanesque builders however, employed wood and other earthy materials to build their arches. Furthermore some of these buildings have ornate window frames.

architecture One of the most important legacies of Romanesque architecture is the use of the rounded corners of its more decorative pieces. Many of these buildings have arches that measure nearly forty feet high or higher. They are also situated in more open spaces than other forms of Romanesque architecture. These churches usually feature beautiful mosaics and frescos which are Romanesque sculptures.
