登山鞋大致上可分為
Hiking Boots/Shose （徒步登山鞋）、 Backpacking Boots（重裝徒步登山靴） 、 Mountaineering Boots（高山靴）三種：
建議：
在雪地訓練，建議至少準備Backpacking Boots以上等級之登山鞋。
如有意攀登雪山，建議準備一雙合腳的 Mountaineering Boots。
如有意攀冰，建議準備一雙有前後快扣的 Mountaineering Boots。
Hiking Boots/Shose（徒步登山鞋）：
屬於比較輕便型的登山鞋，適合輕裝行走，結合瞭機能、舒適、耐用..等特色，此種登山鞋是臺灣較常見的登山鞋之一。
Backpacking Boots（重裝徒步登山靴）：
適合重裝及長程行走，提供瞭更好的支撐及穩定機能，此種登山鞋是較常見的登山鞋之一。
Mountaineering Boots（高山靴）：
通常指的是在雪地或冰面的環境下使用的登山鞋，選擇並不多；通常鞋底較硬，鞋底不易彎曲；保暖效果向對於其他兩者，更於保暖；通常鞋子前端和後腳跟會有溝槽設計,可以搭配快扣式冰爪。
