Ik heb het aanvankelijk voor mijn vriend geschreven, om hem een riem onder het hart te steken. Hij kwam namelijk uit een ontzettend zware mentale periode en ik wilde hem met het lied vertellen: "ook al worstel je nog steeds en zullen de wonden nog lang branden, heb je al zo veel doorstaan en zul je dit met net zo veel vastberadenheid in je ogen tegemoet gaan". Het is eigenlijk net zo veel naar mezelf geworpen als naar hem, omdat ik een lastige, nare relatie met mijn moeder (en familie) heb, waardoor ik me bijna een wees voel. Het is een probleem dat helaas nog niet is opgelost en de vraag is of dat ooit zal gebeuren, maar ik kan er in ieder geval mee leren omgaan. Het lied is erg melancholisch, omdat het al het leed dat mijn vriend en ik hebben doorstaan en nog steeds voelen wordt erkend, maar tegelijkertijd is het een kreet van kracht en hoop, dat we hier allebei tegenaankunnen. En dat we elkaar hebben om dit te doen.
