Understanding the Priesthood and the Obligations they have
A priest is an individual in a clerical society who practices the duties associated with the life of a religious person. They are authorized by a church to perform the rites of a specific religion, and specifically, to perform sacred rites of sacrifice for and in the name of a god or gods. Priests also write sacred texts and maintain books of sacred records. They can perform miracles or fulfill other sacred duties. In some religions priests are required swear an oath, which binds them to adhere to the teachings of their religion or to prevent other people from violating their doctrine. Priests can be involved in many aspects, including counseling and teaching and leading meditations or prayers, and performing special rites or other activities.

In the past, priests were the queens or kings of their communities and were in charge of the education and supervision of the young generation. Priests were not just responsible for their own communities but were also required to be involved in communal life outside of the church. They also took part in genealogical work, because they kept records of the ancestors of people they assisted. They had to edit source documents in order to make sure the genealogy was correct.


The vocation of diocesan priests is typically four years long. In this time, they can work as priests in a parish or accept a full time position. They can eventually become Bishop, Bishopric Counsellor or even a cardinal or archdeacon. The order of the clergy is hereditary, which means if your family is clergy then you have the possibility of becoming a priest. You may also be a layperson, meaning you can join the clergy in the event that your baptism proves you are of legal age. To be eligible for the priesthood, most dioceses require at least 23 years of age.

Two types of Priests can be found in most parishes. There are general qualifications, and then there are specific qualifications. General priests must be healthy and physically fit. Particular requirements are often related to the area of diocese that the priest's duties involve. Before being considered for a diocesan job, an archdeacon needs to be in the Ministry of the Sacred Heart and have completed the four year general qualifications.

Priests go through several stages throughout their spiritual life from confirmation to ordination. In the process of confirmation they go through a spiritual confirmation, in which they are evaluated on their worth as God's representative on earth. They are assessed on how closely they follow all the teachings of Jesus, as documented in the gospels as well as the Ten Commandments. In the process of ordination the candidate's knowledge of Bible is evaluated and he is tested to confirm that he believes in the Church.

They regularly perform this service and are expected to be current with the most recent scriptures. Priests come from a variety of years of age, some are elderly and others who are active and well known within their communities. Priests are required to make many sacrifices to the Lord throughout their lives. They can enter Heaven's Kingdom by rising "just" when they die. As a young person, when they leave their earthly life to go to college or a university and make a lot of sacrifices. In this life, they have to support themselves financially, through work, and caring for their families. After graduation, however, they can experience the joy of God's promises and become the sons and daughters of God, and our Father in Heaven becomes our King and Master.
