Are you going on an extended vacation far from home and require to be able to access digital materials? Don't forget to bring digital media in case the WiFi is down
Let me tell you about an excursion I made last year on a boat that traversed the Arctic. It sounded fantastic, National Geographic trip thru the ice, and back with polar bears and many other wildlife. There would be ice wherever eyes could see and snow everywhere. Man-made devices were to overcome the elements and move through the frozen landscape of the northern wilderness. It was awe-inspiring, a massive combat against the weather north and pole.

I was instructed to bring the maximum amount of technology I could in my suitcases. I did bring my laptop with me and also added a large display to expand the space. They assured me that power was not an issue. I was not aware of what was going to happen. Two days into my 14-day adventure I didn't know of the fact that my Internet connection would not work and that I would disappear for the remainder of 10 days. It was a shock to me when it occurred. No trip, regardless of how remote or hard, is supposed to result in a disconnect from technology. In addition, I've got unfinished business to deal with over the next week but I also didn't prepare myself for the downtime.

It doesn't matter if you need to leave your home. Internet is everywhere. If your home internet connection is experiencing intermittent issues, you'll be able to go to an area McDonalds and make use of their complimentary WiFi connection to do what you need. You could even take your laptops and settle in the cafe at Starbucks for the duration of time and sit at a table and browse the Internet to the fullest extent you wish. But, no restaurant, cafe, or cafe can help you out up north. They're a long way from the closest shack, with the electricity produced by the weak generator. There's not a free Internet around the corner.. There are two escape routes in such circumstances. You can either be offline or have a satellite internet connection.

I can't afford a Sat phone. It is way too expensive, particularly to get Internet access. But, I'm planning to create a massive audio and video library for the upcoming time before I travel across the globe without Internet access. The last time I was online, I only had two songs. The songs were downloaded back at the time, and all I was able to listen to was three jazz songs and one I couldn't remember the name of. All I can say is. 4 songs in 2 weeks of nothingness. If I knew this would happen, I would prepare. I would have filled my laptop with TV shows, and music videos. My most loved podcasts would be the soundtrack to my life. It's simple to download them, then convert them into mp3 and save them to my laptop. After that I could simply lay in my bed listening to all the things I enjoy at home, but I never had the time. This was meant to be my golden hour, or two weeks of gold. However, it turned out to be 2 weeks of staring at the ceiling, and waiting for the passengers every time there is a sound within the hallways.

Both literally and metaphorically, the journey was empty. I've never been this bored. I was sure that the issue was going to be caused by the thick ice layer, so the boat was forced to turn around and be returned to the shores of civilization. This was not a surprise however, again, hours and hours of downtime could have been spent beneficially listening to podcasts, watching DIY videos on fixing home problems or simply enjoying music. The next time I'll convert YouTube videos into MP4 or mp3 on a laptop. That way, I will be able to carry my most loved tunes around along and listen to them on my laptop. Music is never going to make you feel sad. It is possible to download Netflix and Hulu movies to your phone to watch offline. These can also be taken along on the long, cold journey. Be sure to stay away from the boredom. Good luck!
