I'd like to tell you the story of my last Arctic cruise. It sounded fantastic, National Geographic trip thru the ice and back with polar bears and several other animals. There was going be the ice where eyes can see, snow, and ice everywhere. Man-made machinery was set to fight the elements, and cut through the frozen northern desert. It sounded like an epic project, a massive combat with the north and the weather, as well as the pole.

I was told by my boss to bring along every piece of technology I could. To make my work space larger, I packed my laptop. As per their report, power wasn't a problem. I was still not sure what was to happen. I didn't realize that I would be disconnected from my internet two days into my 14 day journey and disappear from Earth for the following 10 days. It was a complete shock to me when it occurred. Any trip, no matter how challenging or remote, cause me to be cut off from the technological world. I did not plan the downtime, in addition to having unfinished business that I needed to attend to during the coming week, but I also had additional things to do.

Four songs for two weeks of Insanity. If I knew this would happen, I would have prepared. The trip was empty literally and metaphorically. I've never felt as bored. The ice was way too thick. I knew that this was likely to be the problem. So the boat had to turn around and come back to the shores of civilization. That wasn't unexpected, but again hours and hours of downtime could have been spent listening to podcasts, watching DIY videos on fixing home problems or simply enjoying music. Next time, I will convert YouTube videos to MP4 or mp3 on a laptop. This way, I can take my favourite tunes with me and listen to them on my laptop. youtube mp3 Music can lift your spirits.
