Top 5 Water Sports in Agadir
Soak up the sun on the well-maintained beaches of Agadir, southern Morocco's most-visited city. Palm-lined boulevards and beachfront bars add a decidedly Western-resort feel, amplified by the large number of Europeans who flock here in the winter months. It’s all about laid-back relaxation in Agadir, so ride a camel, rent a beach buggy, check out the Suq al-Had market or take the 20-minute walk up to the ruins of the Agadir Kasbah for expansive city views if you’re taking a break from the beach.
1) AGADIR LOISIRS
The quest for new water sporting venues has spread across AGADIR LOISIRS into the areas as more individuals have taken to the rivers and lakes that crisscross the country. Hence, white water rafting, rowing, yachting and jet skiing are other Moroccan water sports that interest many tourists. Obviously, if you were to visit AGADIR LOISIRS today, you would find no shortage of great water sports to enjoy. If you're planning a Morocco trip, you're planning a trip to Morocco Journey Beyond Travel, and you like water, do not forget to pack your bathing suit.
2) Lalla Takerkoust
The man-made lake of Lalla Takerkoust was built with the intentions to offer water to nearby Marrakech (aproximatelly forty-five minutes) in the first twentieth century. Today, restaurants dot the lake, providing lay-back lunch options and a waterhole for city dwellers looking for respite from the heat in the warm summer time months. And also for those wanting a little more activity, various companies, both registered and non-registered, rent jet skis for a little bit of fun on the water. Pedal boats will also be readily available for those that want something much less adventurous.
3) Oualidia
A gentle private boat ride around the calm, crescent-shaped lagoon of Oualidia is an ideally suited way of spending an hour or perhaps 2. Admire the views, look out for flocks of flamingos, or perhaps head out at the sunset for stunning colors along with dramatic skies. Alternatively, hop on a paddleboard for a little bit of SUPPING on the calm waters. Further, afield, fishermen catch oysters, a local specialty, which are served up at unassuming restaurants dotting the sandy beach. Surfing is an optional activity right here in this Atlantic coastal town.
4) Taghazout
Hard-core surfers head to Taghazout because it is simply a short coastal drive from Agadir , in which international flights arrive regularly. With a couple of locations across the bay, the waves are high and the seas rough. Given the location of it on the bay, Taghazout enjoys temperatures that are comfortable, averaging +25'C year-round, perfect for entering the cool Atlantic waters. The beachside town is quite laid back with several surf schools out there and highly advised, given the local knowledge of their dangerous water conditions.
5) Essaouira
Referred to as Africa's windy city, Essaouira, perched on the Atlantic Ocean, will be the go-to destination for kite surfing in Morocco. In the winter months, kite surfers dot the seafront, turning and flipping through the clear blue skies once the wind picks up, making the city quite unpleasant to those that would like a laid-back break. Kitesurfing schools and shops provide lessons and equipment rentals along with transport to areas further afield where conditions may be much more perfect on any given day.
