What after Engineering? Career Path in IT Industry
After graduating from engineer colleges, most of the students join the IT Industry. Few of them aspire to learn further and enroll for post-graduation in Engineering or move into Management (MBA).
At a comprehensive level, below are the career paths the graduates will be ensuing.
1. Technical
2. Testing
3. Management
4. Business Domain
As a fresher joining the IT industry, the graduate will be either placed in a Technical or Testing career path. Companies don’t usually have a fixed formula to determine who will be placed on which track; most of the time, it depends on your skillset as to which career path gets established.
The graduates will be undergoing training based on their career path before they are placed on projects.
If chosen for the technical path, the fresher might get placed in any technology such as
• Back-end technologies like Java/.Net/Mainframe/Python or
• Front end technologies like Angular/React
• Full Stack development where they will work on both Front End as well as Back End technologies
In the Testing path, the candidate might be positioned in either
• Manual Testing – where software testing is performed manually
• Automated Testing – where testing is done using tools such as Selenium
The remaining two paths – Management and Business Domain need experience, and you can gradually progress to these paths after gaining expertise in Technical or Testing career paths.
Graduates might also choose another route to MBA from a premiere institution like IIM and join directly in the Management path. it colleges in pune to note here is MBA from only premiere institutions counts, and other institutes might not help much.
After acquiring experience in a specific career direction, the IT professions can move to another course as below:
• From Technical path to Management, Testing, or Business Domain path
• From Testing path to Management or Business Domain path
