SariAgri - Sekelompok ilmuwan di Amerika Serikat mempelajari COVID-19 pada hewan dan lingkungan untuk mengidentifikasi asal mula virus mematikan tersebut dan sumber potensial ancaman pandemi di masa depan.

Program tersebut dirancang untuk mengidentifikasi virus pada hewan berbeda sekaligus menentukan apakah hewan-hewan itu memiliki mutasi yang mampu menyebarkan COVID-19 kembali ke manusia.
"Kami sedang menguji rusa, tupai, cerpelai, kelinci dan sedang bekerja sama dengan banyak anggota komunitas yang berbeda, seperti dokter hewan dan klinik hewan untuk menguji hal-hal seperti musang juga. Kami juga menguji babi di pameran pertanian. Jadi, di pameran negara bagian dan daerah tempat babi-babi mungkin dikumpulkan untuk dipertunjukkan," kata Hale seperti dikutip dalam laporan itu.
Melansir dari Antara, para ilmuwan juga sedang memantau air limbah dan aliran perkotaan terkait virus SARS-CoV-2 guna menentukan varian virus apa yang sedang beredar yang menurut mereka akan penting dalam langkah pencegahan COVID-19 jangka panjang.
