Traveling with children is challenging. It's not possible to trust the internet on top of a mountain. I would rather prepare at home.

It's true, I told you.. My kids think the WiFi at the top of the mountain has weak signals. It's just a tiny hill. But it is just above the typical network range. Therefore, my children have to go around searching for better internet spots while my wife and myself put up a tiny camp. We're planning to stay for at least one day. The small brook is close by and is a source of water for our camp. Yes.. Our wife can't go camping without having plenty of water. So, we always have our own.

My children are returning to social media, while I'm enjoying the view. The hill isn't too large, but it's surrounded by larger hills. We go out every once in a blue lunar cycle to get closer to nature. These trips are truly my delight even though I'm not the one initiating these trips. My wife insists on me doing this, possibly partly because she knows what it means to me to spend time in the wild. My children are quite different. The hate the fact that Internet is sometimes unavailable. Sometimes it happens that something in the clouds or magnetic motions can disrupt the streaming song for a couple of minutes before it returns. It can be a hassle, even for me, since it can cause me to listen to the entire thing happen.

After a few excursions that were not connected to the internet access and our regular internet kept dropping between a few and a couple of hours We decided to be prepared. My wife and I made a decision to be prepared for the eventuality that our kids, our children won't have internet access for more than 10 mins. Two entertainment sources were created, even when the Internet is not available while we are camping. The second was a tablet that contained charts and music videos. Our top Youtube MP3 converter was able to extract songs from YouTube videos, transform them into an mp3 file before downloading the songs onto the tablet. It also works with playlists, which made it extremely fast, even though it sounds awfully long. For those who were experiencing boredom or sadness it was possible to listen to music, watch videos and - best of all for everyone! - hear sound via headphones with blue tooth. You think that's great? It made no noise.

The second tablet was mostly TV shows and cartoons we downloaded from Hulu or Netflix. The quality may not be the best but it's something, we have several seasons of Breaking Bad there, and numerous cartoons like Family Guy and Disenchantment. Very entertaining. It was also easy to use. Simply install the apps to activate downloads to watch offline, download episodes, and mark them for download. Tablet 2 came 1 or 2 times after tablet 1 but when it finally did join our family in The Wild, there was no stopping my kids from playing with it and watching TV shows. A couple of DIY videos were made by me, including the setting up a tent and skinning fresh-caught fish. Things you don't normally do in your home city.. These videos were sourced from Youtube. I converted them into MP4 and then downloaded them to my tablet. It's so much more easy to have videos on your tablet while you're doing something.


These 2 tricks have kept our kids engaged on four family camping trips. They are even happy to go out, since they know that the tablet 2 can make their dull downtime more enjoyable and they are able to bring it home anytime they want. It is truly everything I want - to be with my loved ones.
