SariAgri - Sekelompok ilmuwan di Amerika Serikat melakukan penelitian COVID-19 pada hewan dan lingkungan. Berita Hari Ini Tujuan penelitian ini untuk mengidentifikasi asal mula virus mematikan itu dan sumber potensial ancaman pandemi di masa depan.
"Kami tahu virus dapat melompati spesies dan apa yang ingin kita ketahui selanjutnya, atau dapat mengetahui sedini mungkin yaitu apakah ada spesies lain?" tanya Vanessa Hale, asisten profesor di Department of Veterinary Preventive Medicine di Universitas Negeri Ohio.
Menurut laporan terkini ABC7 Eyewitness News, Hale bersama tim mikrobiologi dan ilmuwan lainnya menjadi bagian dari program bernama eScout.

Program itu dirancang untuk mengidentifikasi virus pada hewan berbeda sekaligus menentukan apakah hewan itu memiliki mutasi yang mampu menyebarkan COVID-19 kembali ke manusia.
"Kami sedang menguji rusa, tupai, cerpelai, kelinci dan sedang bekerja sama dengan banyak anggota komunitas berbeda seperti dokter hewan dan klinik hewan untuk menguji hal-hal seperti musang juga. Kami juga menguji babi di pameran pertanian. Jadi di pameran negara bagian dan daerah tempat babi-babi dikumpulkan untuk dipamerkan," kata Hale.
Para ilmuwan juga sedang memantau air limbah dan aliran perkotaan terkait virus SARS-CoV-2 guna menentukan varian virus apa yang sedang berkembang. Menurut mereka ini merupakan langkah penting dalam pencegahan COVID-19 jangka panjang. (Xinhua)
