My personal story doesn't have any depth. I was born, attended college, and worked until I finally got an internet connection. It also has some difficult times when I believed that it was all over. One of these moments was when the computer in my house suddenly stopped functioning. After a little bit of tweaking, shifting my hard drive from the old to the new drive and obtaining a new desktop, all of my work was restored. It took three days of sweating, literally crying... I've learned one thing. To automatically or manually backup my day's work using Dropbox and my personal FTP servers, so that nothing will ever be erased.
This is not the ideal option. You'll need to pay more for maintaining your data storage online. It's very simple and safe. Also, it's accessible, can be downloaded anywhere you have access to internet. What happens if WiFi or another internet connection isn't available? I find it very comforting to always carry my laptop, as it acts as my backup option last resort. I have two drives, each with an RAID stack. They copy each other and make sure there's at least one copy if one of the HDDs fails. I only copy stuff there to ensure that the laptop does not fail.
Another day of immense sadness occurred just a few weeks back. I'm very careful not to lose my work. As I mentioned, I now copy it many times over and have instant access wherever the internet is accessible. This was different, this was about Periscope. I used it a lot several years ago, and even this last summer 2020 during riots I was able to participate in some live streams.. And all of a sudden Periscope TV is closing, and all videos will disappear in just two weeks. What do I do? I need to download all of the videos to save them on my laptop. These videos are extremely dear to my heart. They were my last time with my friend during Covid.
It's a site I use to download video clips from Youtube, Instagram, Facebook, and other places. I'm a fan of politics and underground movements, so I take a lot of videos of live events, and store them for future use. I then publish some videos on my YouTube channel and save it to my computer. This is the way I do it. It allows me to cross-post videos to various platforms. Not only can I post Youtube videos on Facebook however, I can also upload the video directly to Facebook. It's a separate video. And so it happens, I have three TB of live feeds I've conducted over the past eight years. And I'm not losing my Periscope lives.. And this site is very helpful to me.
It works like a charm. It is possible to open the video you wish to download via Periscope, Youtube, or Facebook. Copy its URL by clicking the share link. After that, I go to the website for video downloads then copy the URL and click the button. In just a few seconds, I have multiple options to download video. Periscope may not be accessible on all websites. This site is able to manage m3u8 files that other sites download on behalf of you. I then navigate to the website for video downloaders and paste the video's link wherever they would like it. After that, I hit the big button. Video doesn't download to my computer, it's on the internet and can be played online as the player loads small fragment files one by one.
If you weren't aware, the windows copy command will allow you to connect these fragments and produce a normal-length video file. This is due to the format of video used to create the video fragments - Mpeg TS aka transport stream. The video format used for fragments is Mpeg TS. It allows newcomers to stream from to the center of the stream without interruption. It also saves data on the browser since it downloads files of 360x10 seconds instead of the standard 1hr file. This means that when you only watch 25 seconds of the stream it will only download 4-6 fragments. (It will download 3-4 fragments from the 25 second stretch plus 1-2 subsequent fragments if you continue to watch the stream). This drastically reduces the amount of data needed to view the stream for the full 25 seconds.
