I remember on my 14th birthday I had been gifted this magnificent yet old fashioned wrist-watch by my older brother; it was by far the worst gift I had received that day however it was the beginning of a lifelong interest; it aroused a sense of curiosity within me, a curiosity I hadn't felt in a long time, when I had come to realise that this watch was completely see through, this triggered my interest. I could see through its multiple kinds of wheels, its column lever, its balance bridge etc. I would peer into its delicate, intricate design and analyse each part of it for days on end until it had been confiscated from me since it has been too much of a “distraction”. Inspite of this, I had gradually found myself becoming addicted to seeing the ins and outs of such common but fascinating machinery. This attraction to analysing the mechanics and design of objects has remained with me since then. As a result of this, I decided to apply to the Mechanical Engineering course at Edinburgh college since I am an ambitious individual, I am committed in working to build my career and in achieving success. As well as this, the course grants me a wide range of career paths and multiple opportunities which become accessible to me after completion of the course.

Over my past few years at high school, I have developed a wide set of skills suitable for my desired course, chosen because of my passion in the field of engineering and have therefore prioritised my main subjects around these which are: Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics, I will be sitting my highers for each of them this year and am predicted success in them. Each of these three subjects are vital for developing my base for this category of engineering. As I know, Mathematics is important in any branch of engineering, problems will constantly arise, problems by which only certain mathematical equations and methods can help solve. Majority of Physics principals are of use in the world of Engineering hence why it deemed important to have sufficient knowledge of it. I took Chemistry purely out of my interest for the science of it.

Outwith school life and education, I frequently train at the gym roughly 5-6 times a week. Fitness, especially bodybuilding, is a huge part of my lifestyle, it challenges me in such a way that it balances and strengthens the mindset whilst improving me physically. I hope to one day compete in bodybuilding competitions and expand my knowledge in that aspect physical health. As well as training in the gym, I train on a weekly basis at Heriots Cricket Club, I have been playing cricket from quite a young age and have played in several matches as well. I have also developed my citizenship skills by participating in the Employability Committee at my school. This helped develop my team working skills as well as problem solving as we were faced with multiple issues to resolve together as a group. As well as that, I also am an enthusiastic reader, reading books from authors such as Darren Shan, Alexander Lowen and Charlie Higson.

I will look forward to being able to pursue my studies in more depth at Edinburgh College.
