Video storage on the internet isn't reliable websites can shut down or cease to function. Here's how you can save the social media content to your personal computer.

My story isn't a big one. I was born, attended school, worked, labored, finally achieved something online.. However, there were some horrible moments, when everything seemed gone forever. One of those moments was when my computer at home ceased to respond. After a little bit of tweaking, moving the hard drive from the old to the new drive and obtaining a new desktop, all of my work was restored. It took me three days of sweat and tears. However, I did learn one crucial point: Dropbox and personal file servers can be used to automate or manually back up my work from the day.

However, it's not the most efficient option. The more data you store in your online storage, the more you will need to pay to keep it. It is easy to use and seems very safe. It is also easily accessible and is able to be downloaded from any location with internet access. But what happens if internet is not available? I'm glad to keep my laptop with me to use during those times. It's my final secure backup location. They are connected as RAID stacks in order to copy each other, and ensure that only one copy remains in case one of the HDDs fails. Because I copy most of my files there, it's not often that my laptop is working. I don't want two drives to fail on the same date.

Some time ago, my other big day of sadness was. I'm cautious not to lose my work. Like I said I've copied the entire document many times and am able to access it whenever the internet is accessible. This was different, this was about Periscope. I was a frequent user few years back, and even this last summer, during the riots in 2020, I was able to participate in some live streams.. And all of an sudden Periscope TV is closing, and all the videos will disappear in just couple of weeks. What should I do? I need to download the entire video to be able to store them offline on my laptop. They are very important to me. It's the only time I've seen my friend, who disappeared from the radars during Covid. Seems like it was a mistake.


This site is one I frequently visit. It allows me to download video content from Youtube and Instagram, as well as Facebook - which are some of the platforms where I keep most of my live streams. I am a passionate participant in politics, underground movements and so I film often, save them, and upload them to my Youtube channel. When the live stream is finished the video is saved to my laptop. This is exactly how I work. It works like a charm. You can open the Periscope video I want to download, and copy the URL through the share link. After that, I head to the video downloader site. Once I've copied the URL, click the big button. Within moments, I am presented with a variety of choices to save the video on my desktop or laptop. to share it on different platforms, as well as to save it for my family and friends. Periscope cannot be accessible by all sites. But this one can.

Windows copy can be used to combine these fragments to create a normal 1 long video file. This is because of the format used to create the fragments, MpegTS, also referred to as transport stream. It has all the information necessary for decoding video in each of the fragments. Each stream is launched from the middle of the stream with no interruption. It also keeps data off the browser as it downloads 360x10 second files instead of the 1hr file. That means that even if you only watch 25 seconds of the stream it will download only 4-6 fragments. (It will download 3-4 fragments from the current 25 second period, plus one or two additional fragments if you keep watching the stream). This cuts down the total download time by only downloading 25 seconds prior to the start of the stream.
