How to stay current with music from your own country even if it's been 10 years since you last left.

How are you getting on? I am an 18-year-old Russki man who emigrated to America to seek better things in life. In Russia I was not wealthy and definitely not within the middle class. Not me, per-say but my family. As an adult in Russia there was no money a necessity. We needed to find ways of earning money. Many methods were employed however the most popular was soliciting money from neighbors to purchase vodka for their community. The concept is very similar. We'd come up with ways to make some quick dollars and buy a loaf. We were always hungry.

So, I finally got to America. There's nothing quite as beautiful as New York City, Brooklyn, Brighton Beach. It's a city that brings me back to my childhood home. It's loud and dirty, it smells like Russian, and the people there are rude. There are many Russian bars, restaurants, and book stores I've invested a lot of money at.

I love music, and I am a huge fan of books. Nowadays, it is easy to locate Russian literature through Kindle, as it has been happening recently. So I decided to stop buying hard copy books as I don't have much room in my home, and my wife is a bit of an escapist, so I do everything possible not to contribute to her, including avoiding buying new stuff which I don't actually need laying in the house, since I have nowhere to put it... After searching for the first few months , my stacks of books turned into a sad image, and I finally moved them to my garage where there is still space for my belongings.

Music is an entirely different subject. Because my job requires me to drive frequently, I listen to lots of music. Being an Russian native, I haven't been able to appreciate any of the new music that I’ve found in the USA. I don't like hip hop or rap. The new stuff that kids like dancing to. I am a huge fan of Russian music, and songs written in jail. These songs remain popular in Russia even after 20 years. They don't get on CDs - they are mostly tapes in cars as well as videos on Youtube. Youtube is the home of everything. YouTube is my preferred music website. I listen to it every day regardless of whether I am at home or working.

After a while, I've made a lovely long playlist of more than 300 songs I truly love. When I play this music in my head all throughout the day and night I'm not having any trouble becoming accustomed to music because there's over 300 songs, that's a lot. The problem is that I can't find the Internet to download them to listen in my car. This is due to the fact that I use it to navigate and driving. I do all the preparations at home. I've in the middle of my list and I record a couple of songs from Youtube into mp3 files and then burn those MP3s to a CD using my laptop, and then I take the CD to my car to listen. It is also possible to use the Youtube playlist and print the songs. Each song is then converted to MP3 and saved to my computer. Once the songs are printed, it's easy to save them to an audio CD. Sometimes I'm not careful and create a data CD. It won't play on my car stereo. Audio recorded is fantastic. There is no need for internet connection to play music on mp3. I just insert CDs into my stereo slot. When I reach Manhattan, the music from Russia can be heard booming.

It's easy and cheap to download videos from Youtube and convert them to MP3 files so that you can download them to your phone. A friend of mine connected his iPhone to his car stereo, and within a few minutes, it was playing very premium sound. Also, it was possible to stream Spotify and Pandora radio, so you don't require a lot of internet. I think this is the next thing I'll try. yt mp3 Of course, I'll take care not to utilize any free wifi.
