Open Ended
I just finished reading the story Eleven by Sandra Cisneros and I liked the way she wrote the story on how when she turns eleven she is also ten, nine, eight, seven, six, five, four, three, two, and one. As I read the story it tells about the day that she turns eleven but it is also a bad day for her because she didn't have the cake her mother promised her and she had to wear a sweater that wasn't even hers. What I'm am going to type next is how Rachel can be eleven and all the rest of her ages at the same time. Also why she says that the cake would be to late.
The reason that I think that Rachel can be all of the rest of her ages is because some times when you get older you cry like you are three like in the text where she says it felt like her age three was trying to come out of her.Like when you want your mom to hold you like your two. All those times have happened when you were that age and probably happened to you when your were older than you were when that would have already happened to you when you were younger. Sometimes you cry when you get embarrassed or you can cry when you get in trouble and this would be the three year old you. If you say something dumb like " Hey Lucas whats your name?". That would be the ten year old me. So when turn any age you would still be all of the ages you were before.
In the text Rachel says that it would be to late to have cake. What I think she means by that is that since her day was already ruined it really wouldn't be a happy birthday for her. In the text one of the girls in her class said that the old sweater that was in the coat room for months was hers. Then she started to push the sweater of the table and then the teacher Mrs. Price makes her put it on. Then later om the girl that said that the sweater was Rachel's realized that it was hers. And that ruined her day. So when they would sing happy birthday to her wouldn't be an actually be a happy birthday for her. That's why I think she said the cake would be too late.
